61What Is Nanomedicine
Definitions
Nanomedicine: the medical application of nanotechnology.
Nanotechnology: (sometimes shortened to "nanotech") is the study
of manipulating matter on an atomic and molecular scale .
Anything with the word nano in it is talking about an atom size
(or close to an atom size) structure.
Microprocessor:functions of a computer's central processing unit or
the mind of a computer.
RNA: is like DNA except instead of having two strands RNA has only one.
Nanomedicine News
The research into an area of nanomedicine that includes
molecular-scale computing devices embedded to monitor
health, treat diseases and repair cells is the ultimate goal
for scientists. Made of organic materials, these structures
would be able to communicate the human body's
language of life.
A research group at the California Institute of Technology
has made progress by using DNA nanostructures called
seesaw gates to construct logic circuits similar to those
used in microprocessors.
Caltech researchers have revealed a technique by building
a DNA based structure that when integrated into living
cells would recognize and treat complex diseases based on
a series of biological clues.
Other researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Tech-
nology with an RNA based circuit that was simpler but
could still distinguish modified cancer cells from noncan-
cerous cells and even trigger the cancer cells to self-destruct.
These advances show promising new insights and progress
toward a long term disease free body...

So interesting!
Would like to know more...
Fascinating, as Spock would say. In the film Fantastic Voyage they shrunk a submarine with doctors on board to microbe size and injected them into a human being. Now with nanotechnology we don't need to shrink people, the tiny nanobots will be servicing our bodies, ooh! :)
Interesting hub Acer. Voted Up!
Voted up, useful, awesome, and interesting Mentalist. You are a rocket scientist on paper my friend. It is always a joy to learn new things. I hope you are well my friend and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving:) Until next time, take care pal.
Nano Therapy gives hopes to a legion of cancer victims. Hoping that the application will be available to doctors worldwide to save humanity.
Really interesting but I wonder if it would work. When you get a transplant of any kind doesn't the body's natural defenses attack it causing it to be rejected wouldn't it be the same for nano technology? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Very interesting! I think it's amazing how cancer treatments are becoming available that only target the specific areas. It's best to avoid chemo whenever possible. Thanks for the info Bryan!:)
Awesome info with great imagery. I do hope that there is some kind of serious "investment" with this type of study.
I think I am abusing the tobacco flu theory:)
Exciting article and subject here Byran, thanks for putting this article together so well. Nanotechnology is the future and may well prove to be a medical paradigm shifter. Bryan, have you ever pondered on why elites like say, Bush Sr., Kissinger, and Cheney-what, a bazillion heart attacks there- just to name several, are still around and apparently doing just dandy?
Above my head as always! I think the cancer answer is in a food or foods, nutrition somehow. BTW, Happy Thanksgiving!
Awesome hub and awesome hopeful news. If nothing else nanomedicine gives hope to so many people struggling with cancer themselves or somebody they know. Awesome videos and pictures that you included. Another winning hub that goes so well with your award winning poetry. Voted up and awesome.
This takes me back to my microbiology class, RNA-DNA. We are so much more advanced with the technology you've shown us. Thank you for sharing. I learn a lot from you..
Wow, this is amazing. It is so futuristic. I remember seeing nanobots in Star Trek Voyager where the doctor (who was holographic) installed nano-sized bots into an injured person and the nanobots repaired the damage or injury and then were extracted. I totally believe this is the future of medicine. :)
Oh I so resonate and love your words, to me you are the auricle of life's mission. Awesome as always.
Amazing! Reading some of your follower's comments makes me think of Disney's BodyWars where we get a first hand "ride" to see the effects of a splinter in the human body. Hats of to scientists and inventors who are thinking so farrrrr outside the box.
Amazing, MA! We've gone so macro in everything, guess it's time to go micro!
Thank you for sharing this with us, Mentalist! : ) I loved the photos and video that go with it, as they help one understand some of the magnitude of it all. Wow! You are so smart!! Voted up and interesting.
Mentalist, I was wondering, have you ever tried to have your poems published, perhaps for a science magazine? I know I say it a lot, but you have that talent. There are many out there, get their address, and then send them a few. Copyright them of course. I know you have your degree and everything, but you are an artist. Your work is unique, nothing like I have seen before. I know it is hard to get noticed for your work, but for you, I believe you have that hit factor. Your good peoples pal. I have been a fan from day one and a friend as well. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and now it is off to Christmas. Happy holidays my friend.
Great news, although there is a dark under side to nanotech. My first exposure of nano technology was in 2002 via Michael Crichton's book, "Prey."
Great news. This is amazing. Hope this will push through as it will save a lot of lives.
Acer,
Interesting stuff, and to some extent a relief that we have gotten to thius point in science, however my looking towards the past makes me very leary of mans intensions, the past tells you the future so therefore the conclusion is man will find a way to turn something good into something bad. And there is no way around it.
acer, glad to see your openess towards the revolving door
of life. Your writing gives me hope andf insperation which is not new when I read anything you have to say for your gift is special, all I appreciate is the sharing, so that others may see, reminds me of someone that was around over 2,000 years ago who spoke in parables. take good care.
Bryan,
Nanotechnology promises a flawless artificial immune system. It certainly changes things. Conceivably, it could even end death altogether (aside from accidents).
Thanks for sharing this,
Dan
Amazing what science can do. Interesting and informative.Great hub. Voted up.
Voted up. Brilliant work.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful knowledge. How wonderful it would be to be able to destroy cancer cells without harming good cells. Thank you for this wonderful piece of science related knowledge. It is like ice cream to the mind. God Bless You And Everyone You Cherish.
